Hillside Cottage

A remodel/addition to an 800-square-foot residence on a beautiful half-acre lot. The two-story hillside cottage was built in 1932 on a parcel that gently slopes down to a pond in an extensive wetland area. M.O.D.E.’s ingoing plan was to double the square footage of the existing cottage, but we soon discovered that much of the old construction was rotted through. Although this was an unforeseen hurdle, it allowed us to construct a completely new house in a sustainable way. All waste materials were recycled and the new structure was built to a higher standard of energy efficiency.
